Sound driver

Question

Howdy!

I just installed XP.. Now i got some problems when i'm trying to play music. I get this error; "Bad DirectSound driver. Please install proper drivers or select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078" on Winamp, and some others error on other softwares..

When i run the ResourceCD my sound driver seems ok..

By the way, i tried support.dell.com.
And i couldn't find any sound drivers.. This is the list:

Comunication Drivers
Display Devices
Printer Drivers
Removable Media Storage Devices
System and Configuration Utilities

Any ideas?

I have a Dell Dimension 8400. Yes i did format my hard drive.

anigma,   What model computer do you have?  Did you format your hard drive before reinstalling Windows XP?   Steve

You will need to install all of the system drivers for your computer. They should be installed in the following order:

1. System software -- available here
2. Chipset driver -- available here
3. Video card drive -- If you have an ATI video card, you should also have a CD from ATI with the complete driver package on it. If you have an nVidia video card, you can download the latest driver from nVidia here

After these have been installed, other drivers can be installed in any order you wish.

4. If you purchased the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 sound card with your system, use the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 CD that came with your system. If your system has integrated audio, you can download the driver file here
5. Your network card driver can be downloaded here
6. If you have a modem with your computer, you may have a separate CD with the modem driver on it. Depending on which modem you have, your driver may be downloaded from here or here.

I have one more question.. When i tried to install the latest driver from nVidia i got this error telling me that nVidia didn't found any drivers that fith or something, on my machine.

anigma, Is it possible that you have an ATI video card?  If so, then the nVidia installation routine would certainly respond with such an error message. Steve

I don't think so.. On the letter that came with my PC it says that i have a 256MB nVidia Ge Force video card. - anigma

There were two versions of the nVidia 256MB Geforce card which could be installed in your system. Check these links for the correct version for your card:

I followed your advice, ie installed the latest System software, Chipset driver, Video card drive .

but I can´t find the integrated Sound card driver for my DELL DIMENSION 4600.

can you send me the link to download it?
