Did you try to update drivers for the Seagate drive?

Two significant problems wiith SP2 which I've not seen covered elsewhere.

You need to distinguish between the specific problems that your system seems to have, and what might be bugs in SP2. The reason these problems are not covered elsewhere is, most likely, that nobody else is having them. Thus, they do not appear to be problems with SP2.

All my log in cookies to every web site I go to and log into were being lost each time. I was having to re-enter my log in detail each time.

I have never seen nor heard of that one. Are you sure you did not set your privacy settings to block cookies?

My tape back up unit would not work under SP 2,  TBU is a Seagate STT20000A, it uses Travan TR 5 10gb / 20 gb tapes.

I happen to have the exact same tape drive in our old Dimension XPS T700r here. It is working just fine, both before and after SP2.

Dietmar,

Hi,

Having spent a while going through various security settings. I  tried  this, with all security & privacy settings in Internet Explorer 6, enabled / disabled or ticked in / out as necessary, I also tried it with both Zone Alarm Pro disabled and NAV disabled.

No change.

I then spoke at length with my ISP, who had me check more settings, all of which were correct.

No change.

Now back to XP Pro SP1, as far as I can tell all my security settings are exactly the same as they were before, but now things work.

As for updated drivers for the Seagate TBU, to the very best of my knowledge there are none.  I have latest driverr file for the drive  (file name DDBE201.EXE ) but didn't try these as they are not XP certified.  As the native drivers in XP SP1 worked, I used these with no problems.

As I regularly get e-mail from users all over the world asking me for the driver file, they have found my name & e-mail address using searches for the drivers.  I now actually have the driver file on my ISP freespace as it saves me having to e-mail 5mb files regularly. I also have a DOS test and firmware update for TBU which Seagate sent me.

I might try installing them at some later date and running the TBU in XP compatability mode.

For now I'm staying away from SP2, I don't need the grief of re-installling an operating system and numerous programs. I shall check for security and critical updates in Windows update.

The uninstall SP2 in add / remove programs left me with a dead system. This was not in my plans for a holiday weekend.

SP2 wasn't actually available when I checked yesterday anyway. The update site indicated the demand had been too high.

ceri...

Your post leads me to believe it's likely there was a problem during the actual install that caused the problems you described.  Were I to offer a suggestion it would be to wait for your CD to arrive (assuming, of course you ordered one) and run it from there to minimize any chance of problems.  I do believe this is a very worthwhile (and necessary) upgrade and while there are always issues with every large update, from what I've seen personally and on friends, family and acquaintance's machines, this one may have fewer issues than anything comparable in recent history.

Dan,

Thanks for the reply.

Finally managed to order the CD yesterday, so I shall wait for the postman and furrther reports.

In the mean time my NAT router with NAV & ZA Pro will handle things, along with all the usual spyware programs/

Oh well so much for progress.
