I don't think this is possible with Vista since it is an image-based install.

well I've tried these:
 
-after running Dell's utility to create the various partitions (utility, media direct, primary part for Vista,  Extended for others)
 
-place the HDD to an enclosure, connected it to another PC then formatted the primary partition,
created various folders:
  Windows
  Windows.Old
  Windows.Old1
  Windows.Old2
 
- when I ran Vista setup,
  the thing was that it just popped a window saying that it will
  place the old windows at another folder.
  I can't remember exactly but I think the empty Windows folder that I created
  was renamed to Windows.Old.001
 
  This is definitely... not nice.
