Splash Screen Question
Hello all,
RE: XP Home SP1a Welcome Splash Screen, Intel BIOS P22.
When booting I get a Welcome Splash Screen and want to disable it. Can this be done and if so how.
Thanks.................

Mel,
The only screen I would like to disable on booting is the screen that says Welcome, nothing else. Thanks.....RS

To boot directly to your desktop go to Start|Run, enter control userpasswords2 and click OK. Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." As you OK out you will be prompted to enter your user name and password. The Welcome screen will no longer appear.

Denny Denham,
By unchecking what you said will this effect anything else besides the Welcome splash screen?
I understand Windows needs a certain amount of time both while booting and shutting down to complete certain tasks and was wondering if by disabling the Welcome screen if I will be shortening the boot time, or will I just get a blank screen in it's place with the boot time being the same.
My system boots fairly quickly and I don't have a problem with the Welcome splash screen or the time it takes to boot. I'm just trying to get better control over my system by disabling this Welcome splash screen just as long as I gain something out of it and it doesn't upset something else in the process.
Thanks..........RS

The change does nothing to the system except bypass the Welcome screen on bootup.
