spy bot horror
I have posted other problems that I have had, after downloading spy bot, and I have resolved them all, except one...
When I start my computer, this is the error message I get:
You do not have a properly configured modem or communication device set up for use at your current location. Start program setup, double click modems and communications. You may need to configure the device first. If the modem you wish to use is not listed, click the Add button. You may need to restart windows before using a newly added modem.
I looked through the back up files on spy bot, and I don't see anything refering to a modem, unless of course if it is called something else that I am not aware of.
Any suggestions?????
Thanks
Angel

If it was a dialer, the AV program may not have picked it up, as strictly speaking it is not a virus.
The message said the modem was not configured properly, which is not necessarily the same as that it is not working properly (the latter means that Windows has detected it and loaded the drivers OK). Try checking the configuration of the modem. One possibility, if Spybot deleted the dialler number, it also changed or deleted the My location entry.
Look in Start, Help and support, search for 'modem'. If you are online, you will also get some related articles from MS knowledge database. You could also try the troubleshooter.
Sorry that you have had this bad experience with Spybot. I have never had any problems with it.
Alternatively, if you are not using the modem to connect to the internet and (if it is a fax/voice modem) you are also not using it for faxing or telephone, then you could just disable it in device manager. Windows will not load the drivers at startup. If you later want it you can just enable it again. Note: Don't uninstall, just disable.Disable just takes it out of the profile, uninstall removes the registry entries, and Windows would probably detect it as new hardware next time you booted.
