Check in Properties of Start Menu (right click on Start Menu) to see how many programs you have the Start Menu list.  Also, the list is a function of how many times you use a listed program (so my Snood game ALWAYS appears at the top of the list), rather than the recency with which you use the program.  To test it clear the list, open one of the programs that concerns you, and see if it appears on the list.
