start up or boot failure

I just got off vacation and i went to turn on my computer.  Everytime i turn on my computer it goes to this one screen saying that windows wasn't shut down properly and it gives me choices to either go to safe mode, safe mode with networking, some other safe mode, start windows from a previous working mode, or to start normally.  i have tried all of these selections and none seem to work.  what's going on?
