start up problem

Question

Hi some one asked me this and I had no good answer as to why it was happening.There computer is a Dell but that is all that I know at this point. When they start their computer the blue start up screen flashes then goes to a blank black screen with a blinking line in the corner.After a few seconds to a few minutes the machine starts up normal.This has just started lately anyone have any ideas as to what this may be? thanks

FYI, ask to see if they have an all-in-one printer with a build in card reader.  I have an HP with a card reader and had to disable USB boot in the bios.  The computer kept trying to boot to the card reader.

I have seen this problem before, try this: disconnect all USB devices includes all scanners printers mp3 players ie the works on ur USB ports. Now start the system up without the usb devices, should go straight to the OS. If this does work i'll tell you the next step.
