Starting Vista for first time.

While purchasing my Easy transfer cable today from a nearby store, the sales man mentioned that when he first started up his new computer with Vista installed on it, it took a couple of hours for all the settings to take effect, and he couldn't use the computer while this was happening. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Thank you.

hahaha that is a BOLD overstatement.

for the first couple of hours, Vista will build the search index. This will slightly slow down the computer, but all software, applications, and what not will function as they should (just a bit slower).

It also depends on the hardware configuration (mostly installed memory) and how fast the PC is, how long this will take.\

A couple of hours seems a bit extreme.
