Stinger Download

I want to download the stinger removal tool.  It says to turn off system restore.  I want to know, if I know I don't have a virus of any kind is it still necessary to turn off system restore.  I don't want to lose my restore point.  Thank you

My understanding is that they have you turn-off the Restore Points so that if they do find a virus (and remove it) it can not re-infect you from recovering with that restore point.  There was at least one virus that I know of which would hid itself in a restore point and would somehow cause an automatic recovery if the virus was removed by an AV package.

It seems to me that you would be just as safe to run the tool and if it finds anything,  then disable restore points and re-run the tool to clean the infection...
