STOP: 0x00000044 error on startup! PLZ help!
I recently updated my NVIDIA 6800 GT video card driver, a fairly routine thing for me; but in the login screen after resetting, I got the blue screen of death with a "MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS" STOP: 0x00000044 (0x85A40660, etc, etc.) (the later digits change from time to time, but the first one is always the same). I've tried uninstalling the video card drivers, loading drivers from my resource cd, using system restore to go back to an earlier point, running CHKDSK, running Registry Mechanic, and so on and so on. The only way for me to get into Windows is to open it in safe mode, and then it works fine. Otherwise, I get the same blue screen message as soon as I get into the login screen.
I called Dell tech support, and they said they could help me fix it, but my warranty apparently expired and that's as far as it got. The support technician told me to look it up on Google, but all I could get on 0x00000044 was something about Novell client and XP Professional, but I don't have either of these. Also, most people only get this message once in a while, but I have it every time I start it up.
My computer:
Dell Dimension 8400, 3.2 Gig P4 processor, 1G RAM, running regular Windows XP.
