Stop error

Question

When attempting to install software for new scanner, HPG3010, I get a blue screen Stop error, (registry error).  STOP: 0X00000051 (0X00000004, 0X00000001, 0XE4E12830, 0X000020R8)  The third parameter will vary with each attempt, all others remain constant.  All periphals disconnected, have tried installing from CD, from driver download from HP direct to program, download to desktop and then to program---all the same results. Appreciate any help--   System is: Dell Dimension 8400 BIOS Dell inc. A03 Windows XP Pro. Service pk 2 and all updates installed RAM 1 GB Pentium R 3.40 Ghz Hard drive 144.44 GB, used 30.2 GB

Skip the HP software. It doesn't work with XP and Vista. Just install the basic driver and use the Windows Scanner and camera Wizard in XP. The 3010 is an older model scanner and will work without all the bells and whistles--HP manager, HP Photo wizard etc. Here is the driver only: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=sj-46320-2&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=1849439&os=228&lang=en   You don't connect the scanner until after the driver is installed. and you should first remove any scanner software or driver you installed previously.

I trtied your suggestion, however I got the same result, same STOP error, only the 3rd parameter was different as it has been different in all previous trials.  There were three CD's packed with unit.  One for Windows 98, 98SE, 2000, XP Pro., Home and Pro.64 which I used.  One for MacOSX and one for Vista and Vista 64. Thanks for your reply and if you think of anything else please post. If I did not say before computer boots and operates normally otherwise. Thanks again.
