Stop "Microsoft Works Update" in System configuration Utility

Hi, Every time I use Word, it somehow causes a check mark in "microsoft Works Update" in System Configuration Utility.  I go to start/run/msconfig/ and open the startup and sure enough there is the check mark on a new Microsoft Works Update. ( I have 2 others, but they remain unchecked)  I uncheck it/apply/restart my computer and it's gone.  I want to stop this because I think it has something to do with : every time I start my computer, I get a screen asking to connect to the internet before all programs can launch in the background, hit cancel a few times and it closes and everything loads.  With the above mentioned, (unchecked), my dial up connection does not appear.  I do not use Microsoft Works , just Word..

I use Windows Me, Dimension 4100, Nav2003

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Newbeee

There is another place where you can turn this off. Open Works Suite, click Customize, uncheck the box that says Notify me of program updates to Works. That should do it.

But please post back and let me know if it worked.

Thanks osprey4 for the quick response.

I need to ask before I do anything.  When I go to start/programs/microsoft works/ it says "microsoft works task launcher".

Is that where I need to go?

I get nervous about doing anything after replacing a hard drive and a clean install and not knowing much about how these things operate.

Please be patient, thanks again, newbeee.
