strange error during install Windows XP
Hope someone can help!!
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 ( for two weeks now). On the machine there is Vista Ultimate installed.
There are 2 partitions, C and D. On the C partition there is Vista. I want a dual boot machine so i want to install XP on the D partition.
I am using a slipstreamed XP dvd with SP3 (Nlite) and all the drivers 32 bit for xp from Driverpack.
Installing XP is not the problem, the error occurs at the end off the installation. Then the machine wants to startup XP and it goes directly to the F8 screen.
I tried all the options, nothing worked. Everytime the result is that windows try to boot and the F8 screen appears.
I already did a complete xp installation (with formatting the complete HDD) even this is giving the same result
WHAT IS GOING WRONG HERE? :emotion-42:
The last thing i can try is adding the XP drivers specialy for this machine in my slipstreamed dvd but i never had this problem before with other manufacturers.
Is hope someone can give me the solution:emotion-2:
Thanx for your reply,please help!!

Hi Joost44
Could be wrong because I’ve misunderstood, but?
Assume you formatted HDD using slipstreamed XP DVD first
You then need to allocated the default (first OS install) partition as C for XP OS & D for Vista OS
Then continue with slipstreamed XP DVD to install XP+drivers on default partition C
Followed by Vista DVD to install Vista on partition D
The Vista install process will install correct boot loader for dual boot options
When you use Vista OS it will show it’s on C:\ drive & XP is on D:\ drive
When you use XP OS it will show it’s on C:\ drive & Vista is on D:\ drive
Then if still having dual boot problems read info & try Boot Configuration tool here

Hi Bell boy, thanx for your reply.
The situation is that even when i only try to install XP on C drive (so without Vista on D, so no dual boot) this boot problems appear.
Do you or someome else have other suggestions?
Thanx,
Joost

So problem must be down to method/source used to create slipstreamed XP DVD :emotion-55:
Well I did say maybe I’ve misunderstood, what confused me (& still does) was: :emotion-42:
“I am using a slipstreamed XP dvd with SP3 (Nlite) and all the drivers 32 bit for xp from Driverpack”
“The last thing i can try is adding the XP drivers specialy for this machine in my slipstreamed dvd but i never had this problem before with other manufacturers”
If slipstream DVD didn’t contain correct Dell Inspiron 1545 build spec XP OS platform drivers, obtained from here then yes that would cause problems
Using above link, the normal procedure is:
Download required drivers using XP OS platform filter & burn them to CD/DVD
It’s only necessary to slipstream the SATA driver with XP (if original XP CD/DVD doesn’t have correct SATA version driver already integrated)
Then use the CD/DVD containing required XP OS drivers to install drivers in the correct order
