Strange Window problem

Whenever I log onto the internet all windows freeze. I'm running Windows XP. What happens is that I dial up and then cannot open a window. Click on Internet Explorer and nothing happens. Click on My computer nothing happens. I thought I had narrowed it down to a problem with MSN messenger but even after uninstalling it I get the same results. I can't even log out of my account or restart when this happens. Have to hard restart. Has anyone had this problem before? It's driving me crazy. And it doesn't happen everytime but about 90% of the time. Any help would be appreciated.~

See if you can narrow down whats going on by checking the event viewer by doing this:

Go to your Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer Check under the System Tab for any listed error messages. If any are found, repost them in a new thread or go to http://www.google.com and input the error message in the search box to see if solution may be listed. Kip

Thanks for the reply. I don't get any error messages. I just can't open any windows. I can get control panel open but then can't open anything from there.

If you cant open the control panel and access any components there, your very limited to what you can do to find the source of the problem.   Are you familiar with safe mode?  Tap your F8 key when you boot up, before the dell logo appears.  It will take you to a panel where you can boot in safe mode.  That may allow you to get into the control panel and view the error messages I wrote about in my first post.  At least that will be a starting point.  If you cant solve it from there, then your looking at a clean reinstall of Xp.  Kip

Just wanted to add that this happens in all XP user accounts.
