Streaming video problems

I have been experiencing buffering problems on my Dimension 2400. When I first bought the box it worked fine for my needs. I use it for work and the internet. I watch lots of streaming videio from webinars to media streams ect.
Several months ago I started having problems with the media buffering almost without fail. I checked my ISP connection which is an entry level business circuit. I am consistantlty getting 756k and above and appear to have good headroom based on the test I ran.
So I upgraded my Ram from 512 to 1.256g. I also purchased a Radeon 9250 256meg video card. I just installed both a day or so ago and expected the problem to go away. Didn't happen. Same problem. I didn't see any performance improvements in general. I run a registry fix quite often and use spyware scans.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!

Your local data link between you and your ISP is only one small part of the overall connection.  Your ISP link may be running at it's stated speed, however, there is the remote server where you are getting the videos and those server's capacity, the remote server's link to the internet and how busy it is, the "cloud" internet links between that remote server and your ISP and finally your ISP's link to you. Many areas that can cause problems, buffering, dropouts, slowdowns, etc. And because of the inconsistency in connections, you can connect and have problems, disconnect from that site, reaccess that site and it will work fine.

I have one Internet radio station (streaming audio) site that I access.  They only have Quicktime and for some reason the site will stop and the QT program must reconnect every 18 minutes.  They know about the issue but don't know how to resolve it.

Thanks for the info. The thing is, I also have a old Dell Inspirion 2500  laptop over the same connection. It works fine. As well I have a generic 486 box that works fine. That has lead me to believe the issue is not a network but a config issue with the 2400. Also the fact that the 2400 worked fine out of the box until I accepted soem of the recommended upgrades.

The site my daughter wants to watch video from is Noggin.com.

I am so frustrated with this issue.

Thanks again.

What media player do you use to view the streaming video?
If it is windows media player---What version is it?

Have you checked microsoft for updates for it?
Reset the the "performance"  options in media player to "default".   Restart windows, connect to noggin and see if any of that helps. Good luck.

IE version 7. I have had this box for about three years now. I plan on buying a new one this fall for my den. One of the dual processor E Media Dells.

I did install the software that came with the card and then I went to ATI's site and downloaded the files they recommended. Absolutely no change in the performance.

In "control panel" try resetting all of your "internet options" to "default". Even the "advanced options"

Also in "control panel" check your "sound and audio setting" making sure to reset them to "default".

After that check the  "hardware acceleration" slider in "sound and audio advanced settings". Set it to

basic or standard.

In the RUN box type  prefetch.  Delete all files in this folder. Empty recycle bin.  Restart.  Open your

browser and try again.

These little problems are so frustrating. It is usually one simple little setting or something throwing

the whole thing out of whack.

Let me know.......

Well I did what you suggested and I also downloaded another spyware program and ran it. Which did find some adware cookie trackers. Still freezing up and buffering like crazy.

Man this is frustrating. Thanks so much for your help.

I'm glad you did not say windows ME!  I would have said that is your problem for sure.  :smileywink:

How long have you owned that beast?

What driver did you use for the video card?  Usually the ones shipped on the cd's are old.

This is the one I would use.

This should be a link to network drivers and BIOS revisions for your system.

Before you do that though.  What browser do you use?

Thinking back I think the problem started when I upgraded to IE 11. Does that make any sense?

Man....did it all. Checked it all. Problem still persists. The only excpetion was I did not see a bios or firmware update on the link. I only saw wireless adapter updates and modem updates. Neither of which is installed on my box. Geezy peezy.

Thanks for all of your help and your time. I am about ready to give up!

The Bios Revisions should be in a column on the left hand side of the page of the link on drivers.

Are the Bios down loads the "A01 (15)" links down the left side? If so which one should I download.

I was actually referring to when I upgraded to Media Player 11. I did both almost back to back. Before then I had not experienced a problem. I resisted messing with things for a while.

I am just not seeing them on the page.

Thanks.
