Stuck in Windows 8 Automatic Repair loop

Has anyone had this issue?  Windows 8 goes to Automatic Repair, which is unsuccessful, and when I restart, it just takes me right back to repair once again.  I am REALLY afraid my only option is to re install the OS, and of course I don't have a backup of my data.  Can anyone assist?

Hi slver8248,

Perform the following methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue:

Method 1: Restart the computer by force shut down:

Once the computer restarts check if you are getting the same error message. If the error message exists, perform Method 2.

Method 2: Perform Startup repair:

I would suggest you to perform a startup repair using Windows 8 bootable DVD or USB drive and check if that helps.

  • Insert the installation DVD or USB and boot Windows 8 from it.
  • In the ‘Windows setup’ page select the ‘language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.
  • Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select ‘Troubleshoot’.
  • Click on ‘Advanced options’ and select ‘Automatic Repair’ and select the operating system.

Hope it helps.

slver8248,

Please continue with Dell-Rajesh R

Try this method and see if you can get in to the safe mode using the instructions from this Wiki

Windows 8 shutdown to bring up troubleshooting mode

Make sure to follow the instructions from...

Thank you, but none of that works.  My next option is to try and run a repair using the recovery disk.  Of course, we didn't make a hard copy when we got the computer in February :emotion-6:  If that doesn't work, we will have to reinstall the OS.  Ugh.

Anyone know how long it takes to get a disk when you use the online request form?  I submitted it on Saturday and didn't get an email or anything back...so I don't even know if my request went through.

slver8248,

Only a few days.

Before you try anything, I would Download Knoppix Live CD or DVD and try to get your files off the computer. Knoppix would allow you to boot the computer with the disk and then you can locate your files.
