Studio XPS 1645: Dell System Software for Win7 Pro

I just installed a Samsung 840 SSD in my Studio XPS 1645 laptop, did a clean install of Win7 Pro, ran all Windows updates including SP1, and installed the drivers.

When I try to load the driver for Dell System Software (admittedly I don't even know what this is, exactly) I get an error message indicating that I do not have the correct service pack.

How critical is this software? I used the file shown on the Drivers and Downloads page and when I tried to install it, it definitely listed my system (1645).

And since Windows reports that I have all updates, I'm stumped.

Any ideas?

I just saw the sticky regarding corrections to the drivers and downloads page: There was a new file for this, which I will try when I get my 1645 back from the Dell Repair Depot next week or so (keyboard being replaced).

Thanks to those who helped resolve issues with the D&D pages.

It shouldn't matter too much on Windows 7, on Windows XP installation of the drivers in the incorrect order almost always led to audio problems.

If your system is running well I wouldn't worry about it.

Windows 7 64 bit: http://ftp.dell.com/utility/DELL_SYSTEM-SOFTWARE_A01_R260746.exe

Windows 7 32 bit: http://ftp.dell.com/utility/DELL_SYSTEM-SOFTWARE_A01_R260745.exe

Both have worked for me on Windows 7 64 bit and 32 bit with Service Pack 1. The Dell System Software should generally be installed after the Service Pack (if the Service Pack isn't on the instalaltion DVD). The Chipset Driver should then be installed, ...

See my wiki Windows Reinstallation Guide for best results: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3524/t/19480753.aspx

Thanks.

DSS_UTIL_WIN_R260746 is the file I found as a result of your sticky.

Question: When I was doing the clean install I had to get it done because I was shipping the 1645 to the Dell Depot for replacement of the keyboard (it's in transit now).

When I ran into the issue with the DSS I moved on. Will it matter that the chipset driver is already installed?
