Hi,

Thank you for reaching us.

As per the update from Microsoft, all Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 systems should be eligible for the
Windows 10 free upgrade. But, Dell will decide which systems Dell will validate and support with
Windows 10. Hopefully by July 29, Dell will release a list of supported and non-supported system
models.

Regarding the driver availability and support we need to wait till the launch to confirm the same.

Please check our official website for more updates on Windows 10.

Thank you

Since Dell site now supports free upgrade to windows 10 for all qualified laptops, can I be sure that Dell will release driver update for dell XPS L502X( early 2011) ? Can I reserve a copy a copy of windows 10 hopping that Dell will provide driver update? If so can Dell specify any date for release of updates?

Drivers for most of the hardware should be provided with Windows 10 or through Windows Update.  It is unlikely Dell will release a complete driver set itself for a 2011 system -- however, Windows 10 should have most of the drivers you need.  The video drivers may be one exception, but Intel, AMD or nVidia should actually have those by the time the OS is released.

As is ALWAYS the case, make a COMPLETE, BOOTABLE backup of the existing OS before doing any upgrade.  There is always risk with any OS upgrade.

Since some of the drivers are tailor made for dell laptops, so the general drivers may not work for it. Particularly the bluetooth server shows which the get windows 10 app shows error, saying it might not work. Can any one have any idea whether it will work in compatibility mode or not?

I doubt Dell will offer any support. Most everything will work out of the box, but like the other poster said, the video will be the only the issue. Any non-Dell video drivers for my XPS 14 break the brightness controls. Instead of making a driver package where those functions are supported separately, Dell has done nothing, and the latest drivers available from them are from 2013.

yes, I have checked at Intel site, they have updated the drivers, but Dell site is updated till 2013, Dont know whether they will update their drivers, altough microsoft is pushing for windows 10, its very unlikely that Dell is doing much for the update on drivers instead I think they are not supporting the upgrade..

There is no need to reserve a copy. Wait until after the release to see how it goes. The reservation is just marketing to drum up interest. The free update will be available until July 2016. You can decide later if you still want to upgrade when you find out what drivers are available and what problems have appeared.

I'm aware there's "no need to reserve a copy." If Dell is going to provide new drivers they'd already be in the works or even completed. The developer's preview for Windows 10 has been available for some time. They don't need the retail release to update their drivers, and if they're not working on it now they won't be doing anything in the year while the Windows 10 update is free.

The current Intel supplied drivers work fine, they just don't allow for use of the brightness function keys. In fact, the latest drivers work better. The 2 year old Dell drivers suffer from a periodic driver crash when resuming from sleep on Windows 8/8.1.

I have no doubt that Windows 10 drivers directly from Intel will work fine for the HD graphics, but there's no guarantee that the function brightness keys will work. Dell just needs to separate that functionality out into a separate drivers package. They've done it that way before for other models.

I'm currently running the Insider Preview version of Windows 10 on this laptop and it's a nightmare when it comes to the video driver. Mainly because Microsoft forces updates onto the machine which always overwrites the old Dell compatible driver.

There is currently no way of disabling these updates and it's going to cause Microsoft, or I should say their customers, a total headache unless they change this stupid practice. Although I also portion some of the blame towards Dell, as getting updates via Windows Update is a perfectly sensible distribution mechanism broken only by the Dell specific requirements.

If it weren't for this driver issue, Windows 10 otherwise works pretty well on this laptop.

I don't think the XPS 14 had that, did it? Mine shipped with Windows 8. The audio was pretty basic, considering it's an XPS.

And an update on my laptop... Dell published their drivers today (already outdated), and with their drivers the brightness control is still broken. :-(

What about WAVES maxxaudio3 driver? Does it work in Windows 8.1 update or Windows 10 for that matter? I don't think so. This can be a major factor that will force users to stay with Windows 7.

Hi, Gokul G.

I have upgraded my Dell XPS 14 to windows 10 last week and I´m having a problem with startup, because is taking about more than a minute to start up an is very slow until all programs startup.

The system is working properly after login and is very strange due this machine be one i7 with 8GB of RAM (Was perfect with Windows 8.1 about 30 seconds to start Windows and ready for use).

Can someone help me of what should I do to fix it?

Would you think that dell will create new drivers for all those features that are not working?

If they do not support win10 should we upgraded?

I have updated my L502x and there are things I do not like. (overheating, GUIs slow, MaxxAudio.

What do you recommend? Stay or roll back? thx

I don't know why it posted that here... I was on a different thread. Typical Dell :-/
