Symantic System Restore NOT Working!!

Question

I have been locked out of my computer by the sudden appearance at startup of an Administrator account.  I've never set the password, yet leaving the field empty does not work.  There is no way to get into the computer at all--except with the system restore option. I've read that I should hit CTRL and F11 during the Dell splash screen at startup.  I've done this until my fingers are red.  It doesn't work!  Windows simply boots normally and glares at me with a request for a password that nobody in my world knows. What am I doing wrong?   This is my wife's (personally bought) work computer and she needs it ASAP.  Luckily, we have all important files backed up, but she still needs access to the laptop.  Anyone with advice or answers? 1. dont use Ctrl + F11 this will delete all your wife's data.   2. Try this, when you are at the admin login screen do a ctrl + alt + del  twice to get a different login screen, enter your wife's user name and password if there is one.

Mombodog:   I've been the the secondary sign-in screen.  Thing is, my wife never set up a user account.  Once booted, the desktop appeared.  This is why it's so confusing and frustrating that we're suddenly asked to enter an Administrator password.  To our knowledge, there isn't one.   All of my wife's data is backed up daily in case disaster strikes (like now), so losing data isn't an issue.  Losing use of a laptop is.  Thing is, I can't figure out why CNTL F11 isn't working.  The machine acts like I've never touched the keys and boots normally.   Any other suggestions or ideas? Thanks again, Miles
