Synaptics touchpad Latitude 120L

so theres this nifty little program that i use in conjunction with my touchpad, some of you may be familar with it (hopefully). Well anyways, there's an option to have the touchpad disabled when an external usb mouse is connected, and that option is checked(and when it is checked i can't manually diable the touchpad) but the touchpad still works when i have the mouse plugged in. and i cannot uncheck the box, making it impossible to manually disable the touchpad. so my question is, how can i fix this confounded software or disable the touchpad when a mouse is present without the assistance of this synaptics program?
thanks

Check in the BIOS and see if you can disable the touchpad. I am not sure if the 120L has that feature available.

i had the touchpad manually disabled until i got the new synaptics drivers, which at that point made it impossible for me to disable it, but it says it will disable the touchpad when a mouse is present, but it doesn't. thats the thing im trying to figure out, how do i make the touchpad disable when there is a usb mouse avail. and can i do this with a program other than the dell sponsored synaptics enhancments?

If you have the drivers loaded for the touchpad, check under "Mouse" properties. There should be a box you can check to disable the touchpad when a USB mouse is connected. This would be software settings.
