jrenee,

If you entered the command as you typed it, System File Checker should not have worked, as there should be a space after "sfc", i.e. sfc /scannow. I have no idea what you might have tried with the expand command, since there are hundreds of .dll files which you would have to expand to replace all of those installed.

If you were simply trying to replace shell.dll the command to use is (substituting the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive for X):
expand x:\i386\shell.dl_ c:\windows\system32\shell.dll (with a space after "dl_") but System File Checker should replace a missing shell.dll with the copy from C:\Windows\system32\dllcache.

I always agreed about the blank, sfc /scannow (with the space) vs: sfc/scannow (without the space), however I was wrong. From the commandline the "/" is interrupted as a deliminter.  I tried it.  A simple try dir/p (no space) and dir /p(with a space) compare the outputs.  In all the cases I tried a "/" (slash) can replace a " /" (that is a blank followed a slash).  I used "dir" for my test cases.

Thanks for the information. When I did this, it appears to work, but when I try to install the software the same message "Shell.dll is missing" comes up. Do you have any other suggestions. I'm at my wits end.

Thanks
