System Error Category (102)

Error code 000000d1, parameter1 00000000, parameter2 00000002, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000.

My system rebooted by itself and the event viewer has the above description. Can anyone tell me what this means? Thanks in advance.

DHsieh,

Was there a module listed under "Technical Information" in the "Stop" bluescreen? If so, what was it?

Here's a link that will search the Microsoft Knowledge base for XP 0x000000D1. As you'll see, many of the articles are driver-related.

Jim,
Thanks for the reply. The reboot was automatic and it was so fast that I did not see what was on the screen. I was able to retrieve the error message from the Event Viewer. There was a 'dump' that occurred just before the system error, and a file was created in the Windows/minidump folder. Is there any information I can use in that file? How do I view it? Thanks for your help.

Jim,
The funny thing is, I did turn off the automatic restart. And it was still turned off after the restart. But the system rebooted anyway.

There's a tool that ships with XP that will display it. It's the one that displays the "System has recovered..." message after the restart - but I can't figure out what the name of the program is!

Hopefully someone else who knows will reply.

A suggestion - turn off the "automatic restart" feature. That's done by Right-clicking on My Computer, click Properties, click the Advanced tab. Under "Startup & Recovery," click Settings. Under "System Failure," uncheck the box in front of "Automatically restart.", according to Aumha's XP Shutdown troubleshooter. That'll give you a chance to see what's listed on the screen, in case the symptom reappears.

DHsieh,

I'm not quite sure how Microsoft's "On-Line Crash Analysis" service works, but it may be worth a look. You'll need Passport to get beyond the front screen.

(edit) Configuring the system to perform a full memory dump when it crashes might slow things down enough so you can read the module name off the bluescreen. Here's a description of how to make that setting change.

DHsieh,

That's pretty annoying! I've continued to look for articles on manually starting the minidump analyzer/reporter, and still haven't had any luck at all. Here's a thought - do you have a digital camera? Maybe you can take a picture of the bluescreen before the system reboots...like this!
