System Error Help Please
I have an 8600 Inspiron running winxp sp2 home, and discovered I am having this "red X" system error when I go to control panel/performance and maintance/admistration tools/event viewer/ and then to system.
The "red X" error reads like this.
Source: Service Control Manager
Categroy: None
Event ID: 7000
The PCAMPR5 NDIS Protocol Driver service failed to start due to the following error. The system cannot find the file specified.
This error is repeated several times upon boot up. I would appreciate any help in solving my problem.
Thanks
Notary Lady

Hi Bonnie, I tried the first link and came up page could not be displayed. The second link worked and I will have to read through it. I am not an expert but I will try and find out what the link can do to help me out. Thank you for the reply and information.

The fist link is to a forum and for your convenience this is what it says (apparently the questioner has a German language event viewer):
PLEASE HELP
Need help to following event ID. There is nothing to find in the net! (??)
Eventtyp: Fehler
Eventsource: Service Control Manager
Eventkategory: Keine
Event IDg: 7000
Date: 07.08.2004
time: 15:51:58
user: not applicable
Computer: DANIEL
Beschreibung:
the service "PCAMPR5 NDIS Protocol Driver" was not started because of following error:
the system can not find the stated file
Now, I do not udnerstand the problem, since I couldn't find a service named the way, stated in the event id.
looked in the msconfig, but couldn't find anything that way.
I tought that one reason might be, that I crypted my drives with drivecrypt. However the C: drive is not crypted. So that can't be it can it????
I would appreciate your help for getting this problem fixed!
Usually I look on the net and get my solutions myself, however, this time I couldn't find anything.
Thanx...
Daniel

There are certain services that are not listed in the services administration console. You can find them HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
I remember that 4 means disabled, but that is it. Remember to back up your registry before doing changes.
For what I saw PCAMPR5 NDIS Protocol Driver is a packet level driver similar to Wincap. Knowing that you might want to look at your Network connections properties and check which items is using (Client for Microsoft Network; File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Network and TCP/IP) If nothing there looks suspicious check your Device Manager. If everything there is fine, I can just suggest to re-install the network drivers.

How I fixed the error. None of the links or info above helped me. I also combed the internet with google but nothing helped. Finally I checked DELL support for the latest version of the Broadcom driver. The latest version is the version that was shipped with the 9200; version 4.23. However I found a newer driver (4.28) on the Broadcom website here:
http://www.broadcom.com/drivers/downloaddrivers.php
This driver is only a few days older than the DELL driver... obviously some bugs were fixed by Broadcom. Perhaps a DELL support person can comment here about that...?
I installed the newer driver, rebooted, and the red-x error has gone away. Time will tell if the crashing goes away too...
