system restore / re install vista

Dimension 9200
Jan 07    stock version
core duo e6300
upgraded from xp media to vista  march 07

Hi, I have had constant problems running vista since I upgraded. I am guessing a compatibility issue with current software I am using.
I wish to run a system restore to the point when I upgraded.  I know this dell machine has an inbuilt option to return it to it's original state, kind of dells own version of system restore.
1 . would someone please tell me how I find and use this function ?
2 . is it complicated to return the pc to the xp media o/s if need be ? I had no problems with that when it was installed. i still have the discs.

I'm sure this is all very simple. I have no time to spend sitting at my pc trying to figure this out.

many thanks
John

Hi,
I'll just quickly inform you that the Vista upgrade did away with the system restore to XP factory settings. You will have to do a install of XP with the XP disc if you want XP back.  Someone will jump in to explain how to do it if you don't. Basically you boot from the XP disc and follow the prompts. If you want to try a Vista reinstall boot from the Vista DVD and choose you option. You can always goggle to fine out how to install it. Good luck!
