system restore wont work

Recently, I had some rather intense problems with my dell dimension 4600 to the point I had to completely reinstall windows xp and everything else on my computer.  After wards, everything has seemed just fine.  However, my system restore program now will not collect any restore points what so ever.  I have tried manually setting a restore point myself, as well as letting the computer collect ones of its own from time to time too.  I have checked the settings on system restore, and it is turned on and available memory for it is set to the max.
After my computer had completely messed up like I brought up before I decided to purchase new anti virus, anti spyware, registry cleaner, and firewall software.  It is the Defender Pro 2006. Could their perhaps be some type of setting on my firewall or something that is preventing my system restore from collecting restore points.  Thats about all I can think of.  If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it.

mcriggs-  I have read on this forum to check the box "turn off system restore"....reboot....uncheck the box and reboot again and then see if you can set a restore date that will work.

See if the following can help.

System Restore can become corrupt and the only way to repair it, is to start over again.  You disable System Restore, Go to Start > Control Panel > System > System Restore tab and check "Turn Off System Restore on All Drives".    Reboot the computer and then enable system restore again and try to create a manual restore point and restore to it.

I don't know if this helps at all....

System Restore creates restore points two ways. System restore will automaticaly create a restore point during any kind of application change. System restore will create a system checkpoint every time the system runs without a shutdown or restart for 24 hours.
