System Standby & SP2 - Problem
Hello Everyone:
Found a problem that I just can't fix... Installed SP2 a few weeks ago; install went without a hitch. However, prior to SP2 I could put my computer into the "Standby" mode for whatever reason - then come back later on - "Wake it up" and connect to the internet. Now - with SP2 - I can't do that!
I can still use standby - but when I "wake up the machine" I've lost my internet connection. The only way I know to get it back is to reboot. Here's a list of things I've tried - let me know if I should try something else!
>> My NIC Card is an Intel PRO/100 VE - integrated with the motherboard...
- Release / Renew IP Address
- Upgraded the driver to Intel's latest set (Version 9 something)
- Dowgraded to the original driver included with the system
- Set the following Parameters in PROSET Wired Manager:
-
- Turned off Power Saving (in Windows Device Manager as well...)
- Changed PME (Power Management Setting) to allow wake-up from sleep states
- Changed Wake-On-Link to Forced
- Changed Windows to "Never" put the device in Standby / Low Power
- Changed Wake-On-Link Subsettings to "Directed Packet"
- Changed Wake-On-Link Subsettings to "Magic Packet"
- Changed BIOS to S1 Sleep State
None of the things seem to work! Any ideas? (This is not a laptop computer - and I am connecting to a wired network - no bluetooth...)
All help is greatly appreciated!

Hello Everyone:
I have yet to find a solution for the issue - even after calling Intel and Microsoft. Microsoft and Intel seem to pass the buck between each other. According to Intel - the issue is caused by the way SP2 uses DHCP and IP configurations.
Otherwise - I have no information. However, I can tell you that I have spoken with my colleagues at work (with MCSEs; MCSAs; or A+ / Network+ Certifications) and, after reviewing my troubleshooting steps, they see no reason why I (we) still have issues with Standby...
I just received another E-mail from a "High Level" Software Engineering at Microsoft. He tells me to "wait" for a driver update from Intel...
Go figure...
I'm glad to hear I'm not the lone man on the island...

Once you reboot - your issue "should" be resolved. However, if you still have trouble - do the following:
That should resolve your problems. However, perform upgrades at your own risk - as they are not support by Dell.
