System very sluggish - Please help
Very recently my Dell Dimension 3000 has become very sluggish, especially when using the internet. My Norton Security log shows the following intrusion code on 2/24/08: HTTP MS Word Remote Code Exec. It has been since that date that my system slowed down. I was trying to download a template from the manufacturer for an shower invitation to be used in Word, but the action appeared to fail at that time. What can I do now to correct this? Could this mean that a virus has infected my computer? No pop-ups yet, but something is definitely wrong. I had a Trojan virus over a year ago that Norton never detected, could this be happening again?

There are a number of reasons for a slow computer, not all of them from spyware. However, I suspect you have downloaded a key logger. Do a spyware scan with Spybot and also download HijackThis from Trend Micro and post the log on the HijackThis forum. If you don't have spyware slowing you down, it is time to do a defragmation for starters.

Do you have an active link to the HijackThis program and instructions? It's become frustrating searching for things with such a sluggish system. Thanks.

This is the link for HijackThis: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/programs.php. I think you should consider doing a system restore to a date before the trouble started. Click Start, then Help and Support and follow instructions.

I decided to try System Restore first and, as of today, it appears to have done the job. Thanks to everyone who offered advice. I don't know what I'd do with this forum as it has helped me solve many problems.
