Ristella,

Some programs place files they need in the Temp folder while they are active on your computer. The files remain there when the programs terminate. You can delete anything in that folder. If a program is using one of the files when you do so, it will prevent the deletion.

Hi Ristella

You might want to check out Ccleaner. It works great.

Denny,

thank you for your very fast reply.  It's giving me the confidence to finally get rid of all that stuff!

chasbox,

I had heard of it, but was told that it still leaves it up to the user to decide what is safe to delete and what is not.  And that's what I don't know.

Is that your experience?

Hi

I use Ccleaner in this way.I checkmark everything in the internet explorer box except

autocomplete form history. I checkmark all the boxes in  windows explorer and system.

I leave the  advanced box alone. No problems with it at all. Read up on the web site to learn more about it.There is a lot you can do  with Ccleaner. I run it everyday.  You can also take a look

at the Ccleaner forums here http://forum.ccleaner.com/index.php?  Good luck

Just to add one note of caution. I also use CCleaner. The first time you use it uncheck everything. Then go back over each selection and only check the ones you are sure you want removed. Except for the registry deletes there is no recovery once removed. Don't even consider deleting registry entries as there is no point in doing so. CCleaner is an excellent program if used with some caution.

chucket,

thanks for the warning.  I wouldn't dream of fooling with the Registry and will explore the CCleaner site before I do anything.
