Go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced Tab

look for and Tick  "empty temp internet files folder when browser is closed"  Hit OK

Now it will do it for you evey time you close all instances of IE.

Do a disk cleanup and delete any temp files found. Do this once a month.

mombodog. Thanks for the reply. I know that I can Tick  "empty temp internet files folder when browser is closed" and that may be my option for now. I would like to fix this because nothing works when I go to Internet Options>History>Delete. Delete Files, Delete Cookies, Delete History, Delete Forms, Delete passwords are all not working. There must be a cause. Would you have any idea where I should start looking?

On the desktop, when I right click on the IE Icon I get "Open Home page, Start without Addons. Create Shortcut,"etc.and no where in the menu is there "run as administrator." I am the only user and the adminstrator of this computer. I am running XP Home on this computer, IE 7.

Turning off the Add Ons made no difference.  I think the problem has something to do with ZoneAlarm Pro Version 7.0462. I turned off ZAP and then the Delete Browsing Functions worked. I can't be the only one with this problem.

I quit using ZA years ago, became bloatware and protecting more than I wanted.

Are you sure the files are not deleted? I only get the message about waiting if there are a lot of files to delete. But even when I don't get that message, the files are deleted from the temporary internet files folder (except those corresponding to cookies I may have). Check in C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.
To see that folder, you may need to set 'show hidden files and folders' in the folder options/view tab.

I get as far as Local Settings but do not seem to have Temporary Internet Files. I did check to 'show hidden files and folders.' This must be a super hidden file. I am not sure these files are being deleted.

mombodog. I am sure you are so right about ZA. I have a paid subscription and when this runs out I will move onto to a different firewall. Each new versions brings on a whole set of problems plus you really have to go through a long process to do a clean uninstall to get that clean install-a lot of work for a program that seems to have had many problems the last two years.

Try also unchecking hide protected operating system files (answer yes to warning message). Click apply, OK.

JRosenfeld, That worked---- unchecking the protected operating system files. I seemed to have a lot of files still under temporary Internet Files after trying to clear these under Internet Options.

I finally decided to go to Window Internet Logs in safe mode and I deleted the backup.rdb, and the iamdb.rdb files to clear out settings in ZoneAlarm Pro.  Now all works as it should when I click on Temporary Internet Files>Delete Files. I am not sure why it is working again but am glad that it is.

Thanks everyone for your help.  Annie
