Areitze, I use a Latitude D630 here at work and when my system comes out of standby (after I open the lid back up) I usually get the resolution drop as well. If you have the latest drivers from the Dell support site the resolution
should automatically switch back on its own after a short while (less than 5 minutes, usually more like 30 seconds). I don't know the exact cause of the problem but I know that updated drivers were released to address the problem.
Thx!!! It actually does answer a part of the question of why my laptop was some what out of sync with XP compared to Vista.
I guess I prefere to keep vista then. I still find it to be rather clumbsy on certain things, like waking up after sleep (always un sets my resolution preference), and bluetooth is really strange to say the least (disconnects my mouse (dell bluetooth) sometimes and sometimes its the other way around, does not disconnect even though the mouse is turned off).
Thx Larry fopr your help, It does actually return to its original settings as you said, after 30 secs. the thing is that those 30 secs bother me. i ussally open the laptop to get conected right away. under xp in my previous inpiron laptop, it was more like 5 secs tops. I would expect at least the same for this new laptop.
I know its not a crucial problem, but still, its a problem i didn't have wit my previous older laptop under xp. that's why i figured that xp would be better in performance than vista. hmmm still studing the subject.
OK, I did it!!! And I don't regret it!!! switched to XP.
My main issues as stated above were bad wakeup time, screen resolution jumpling back and forth after the wake up resetting my desktop icons, clumbsy bluetooth, bad wifi managment after a wakeup from sleep, oh, and slow video transmission for wathcing movies on my tv through S-video.
All things trivial, but still they really bothered me. So a while back I did make the swith to XP, but had so much trouble, never knew how to handle the SATA drive, etc... So went back to Vista. But all the nags kept coming so I investigated a lot this time, learned a lot more about my computer and jumped again. This time succesfully.
Sleep is a breaze, wakes up and less than 5 secs, with everything operational in less than 10 secs. No video probelms at all!!! Wifi grabs my prefered network right off the bat after the wakeup and connects (in vista it generally only grabed the network as a LAN and no internet). Haven't tried my video transmission yet, but am guessing it will improive since XP is low in resources compared to Vista.
Now don't get me wrong, i wish vista didn't have these problems, I really liked vista: theme, the order of things, navigation, explorer window with buttons as the address above, previews, etc. It's a very good OS, but my computer does not run as well with it yet, it will need more time for bug crushing and driver upgrades.
Well, I hope my experience with this model (inspiron 1525) can help others. I'm not saying you need to make the switch, but if you experience this problmes, rest asure that it's vista and not the computer.
I am glad everything worked out for you. It is sad that after a couple of decades of experience MS still does not know how to use the strengths of a previous OS to produce a better one instead of concentrating on making things look pretty while breaking functionality left and right.
I just loaded XP on a 1525 last week and had no problems with the Dell drivers . . did you load the Dell Notebook System Software first? . . then the chipset driver and then the others?
There is one thing that was rather upsetting: the XP drivers from the suport site at dell for this model, specifically my service Tag. do not work good. Only a few of them are valid, others simply do not work and the only way to get them to work is using other dirvers from other models. I don't know exactly what modeles they come from, but a guy from Mexico, at a specialized dell laptop forum here in Chile, posted a .rar file with an executable for all drivers of the computer except the bluetooth and webcam. This actually worked from the oficial Dell site. So all in all, if anyone needs thos drivers, I'd be more than happy to send them or upload to some site.
They are all oficial Drivers by the way, it's just that this gut in Mexico grabed all the working drivers for this model and put them together in this automatic executable file that installed them all right away in the proper order and all. No virus no nothing just in case someone wonders.
It's like posted in the link above you gave me, this model was never intended for XP, it was for Vista, therefore, the drivers had to be fetched. The only thing is that Dell should post working drivers and not the ones they currently have at there support site.
I know there is supposed to be an order to the instlation of the drivers, but i've never ever paid attention to that. I've installed XP in I have no clue how many pc's in my life (around 300 at least). I used to work in IT so I had to reinstall many Pc's with XP. So, When I say I never paid attention, I really mean it, :-)
Now specifically, my previous Inspiron 1501 AMD, i installed XP and it worked great right off the bat, never one problem, and never paid attention to the drivers.
So I really don't think there could be much if a problem if I don't follow that specific order. And then again, things do change during the years... so maybe that is one of the reasons since this new laptop does have new hardware compared to the standard laptop.
To be honest, as long as (for Dell systems that require it) the Dell Desktop or Notebook System Software is first, followed by the Intel (or AMD) Chipset Software is next, the order for all of the rest of the drivers usually doesn't matter.
The reason you want the chipset software first is because that is, basically, the motherboard drivers. Without it, drivers for other hardware in the system may not load correctly, or could mis-identify the hardware, or even just not "find" it.
Thx you guys, I guess that things do change after all!! well that could be exactly the reason why XP worked great this time and not last time (even though I still insist that certain XP drivers from the support site at dell for this specific model, do not work correctly). This time they were installed by this executable file that I downloaded and it must have been installed under the order you specified.
You were clearly installing on older equipment where XP included the chipset drivers . . they must always be installed first, or others will not install . . as you are finding out. Many notebooks want the notemook management software installed first, so if it is offered, use it.
