Toolbar items suddenly not showing ?

Question

For some reaom my taskbar is missing the icon for ejecting or undocking attached devices to it ,also the double arrows for showing all icons and hiding the icons also is missing ? I have tried checking and unchecking the options in the taskbar and start menu properties and still the problem persist . I would greatly appreciate anyone that could tell me how to get my taskbar back to showing these missing items ! I have no idea why these things are suddely not in my taskbar ,usally I would use it B/4 removing a flash or jump drive from the system ? Thank you an advance to anyone that replies ,also I have tried a fresh reboot of the system and still no luck ,system restore will not restore my PC to any of the resotre points I chose ? Thats another problem for another day ?

On edit, I just noticed the speaker icon is also no longer showing ? followed instructions in help and support for putting the speaker icon on taskbar ,did not work ?

Now after another fresh reboot ,I have the speaker icon the safley remove hardware icon ! However I still dont not have the double arrows for hiding or unhiding the icons that are not being used plus my Norton Internet Security icon is showing ,however my Norton Antivirus Icon is not ,it always would be right next to the internet security icon on the taskbar ! Just more confusion ! Hopefully once agin someone has a fix for me ,at this point I have two concerns why is my Norton Anti-Virus icon not showing (I've checked all setting within the Anti-Virus and all seems OK ) and my other concern is why are the double arrows not showing giving me the option to hide or expand the taskbar ??

Right click on the taskbar and select properties.  Is there a checkmark in 'hide inactive icons'?  If not, you will not get the double arrow in the taskbar.  For anti-virus, is it actually running?  Can you start it manually from the start menu?  Does it show up then.  In that case, it may have been removed from the automatic start-up by mistake.  Click on start->run and type in msconfig.  Make sure that your selection on the first tab is 'normal startup'.

Thank you for your reply ,I had all the setting you mentioned active with a check mark in the box for hiding inactive items and my Norton Antivirus is running and set to run at startup. I let my 13 yer old use my PC last night and to my surprise when I walked up to my desktop to look at the screen all the features had returned ,the speaker icon the Norton Anti-Virus app and the double arrows for hidding inactive icons ? Why the stopped working and then suddenly started again will probably always be a mistery to me ,unless by unchecking the box to enable them and then re-enableing them was the fix ? I even went into the advance settings where you pick which items you want to show in the taskbar ? Thank you for you suggestions , I always appreciate one taking the time to try and help another !

Dont be fooled my 13year old would not know the differance between Windows 95 or WindowsXP and even though I may be far from being a PC Tech Iam in no way a newbie ! The oly thing my 13 year old could show you is how to upload pictures to My Space and how to type for hours in the my space forum ! At first we (my Wife and I)would not even let her go on My Space ,however we had her set it to only allowing known contacts to send her messages ! Every once in awhile we go over her site ,check what pictures she has listed etc. Thanks for your input ,as always its greatl apreciated . Even now sometime all of the icons are listed and other times after a fresh boot some are not present ,the arrow however has been present at all times so far !
