To me thirty to forty seems more reasonable.  Some duplicates are normal,   In either a more intelligent answer requires a list of running processes.   One way to get a process list in reasonable for is to use "HiJackThis".  Go to the "Virus" form for instructions, and then post your log.

There should be maximum about 20 processes running on your system. If you want to know what each process is what its purpose, just search www.google.com for each of the processes listed in your task manager.

I am at work and I am running about 32 processes because I have 7 applications open, plus half of the applications connected to network databases and source code databases.

Hi, These are the only services that you need running in the background. Disable everything else by highlighting the process and clicking END TASK. Your p.c will be a lot faster after you do this. You will have to to this everytime you start up the computer.

System idle process.

System

Winlogon.exe

Services.exe

Svchost.exe

Spoolsv.exe

Crss.exe

Hidserv.exe

Mstask.exe

Taskmgr.exe

iexplore.exe

Explorer.exe

Winmgmt.exe

Dont worry if you think it will damage your p.c,as all the services will re-start next time you switch on.

Hope this helps.

Hi Everybody.  First post on the forums.  Quick question for the Chief - Those services, can you still print and connect to a network and such?

Hi there...yes these processes will still run your Printers, e-mails and internet. Just remember if a problem occurs ...just re-start your p.c and all your processes will run again on start up. Hope this helps. a.t.b.
