Touch Pad Scrolling not working

I have an Inspiron E1505 since March 07.  Just yesterday my scrolling option on my touchpad stopped working.  I have gone into my device manger and updated the driver under Mice and other pointing devices that said PS/2 Compatible Mouse.  There is also another option under that called HID-Compliant Mouse which I did not update.  I am not sure if this is where I should be updating though since I am NOT using a mouse.  I do not see where I would go for the touchpad scrolling options.  Can anyone help me out and direct me where to go to get this scrolling back...please!!!

Do you leave it on all the time? A reboot will do the trick.

No, I do not leave it on all the time, and yes, I have rebooted and it still does not work.  Am I in the right place to try and fix the scroll on the touchpad?  Thank you...

If that doesn't work go down to Mouse & Keyboards and install the Synaptics driver.

Check on the programs and features, and if you have sypantics installed, uninstall it, then install it from here

I am leary of uninstalling it for fear the link you gave me will not work.  Would I loose the software if I uninstall it?  Isn't the link you gave me just an update?  What if the link does not work, can I reinstall what I uninstalled?  Thank you...

I´m pretty sure it will work I do have  a E1505 and I installed that version, If you are not able to use your scroll why to be afraid of lose the program...??? Go ahead an uninstall it, install the application. By the way, it is not an update, it is the application

I went ahead and did the uninstall and reinstalled from your link.  The scrolling still does not work.  I noticed during the install wizard that it said this:

Synaptics (Syn TP) Mouse…. Install Failed

Synaptics (HidUsb) HID…Ready to use

In my Device Manager under mice and other pointing devices, I have two items.  One is HID-compliant mouse and the other is PS/2 Compatible Mouse.  When I open these they both say they are running normal, however when I click on the PS/2 Properties, then the Driver tab the Disable is ghosted out and so is the Roll Back Driver.  Does this mean it is disabled?  Could this be the problem?  Or is this just because I do not have a mouse connected?

Thank you for your help.

Have you checked on the Control Panel??? Click on the mouse option and see if you have the synaptics options... I do not remember the name of the TAB where the scrolling option is located, but look on every single one...
I´ll check my laptop when I´ll be at home and provide you the other options but if you do not get them

Okay, I checked the control panel and under the mouse tabs there is no synaptics option.  I checked all the tabs and no scrolling information anywhere.  Thank you again for your help.  If you have any other suggestions I'll be checking back.  Thank you ....
