I presently have an older computer and I am planning to replace the Win 98 SE OS with a full retail version of Win XP SP2. My question is, when I get a new computer without an OS will I be able to remove Win XP from the old computer and install it in the new one without running into registration problems?
Thanks
If you buy a new computer from any major manufacturer, it WILL HAVE AN OS on it as they won't sell it w/o one, including Dell.
If you have a full retail version of XP (why? all you need is the UPGRADE version), then yes, you can remove it from an old computer and install it on the new computer. It will NOT automatically activate, it will prompt a call to the MS 800# and you can explain to them what you did and they will activate it.
