Trillian- Instant Messaging

I started using Trillian for IMs at work. We often communicate with our guys in the field in IM when the cell phone reception is bad. I use Trillian because it allows one to communicate with people using MSN, Yahoo, AIM, or ICQ, and no one can agree on what's the best!

I never had any trouble with trolls- people popping up in windows ("Hey there! Click here: www.stupidpagesforgulliblefolks.com) before, but ever since I updated to the latest version I am being inundated with them every time I sign on, and I cannot find a setting to block people who are not on my contact list. They're a pain any time, but especially when I'm working! Does anyone know how to block or limit contacts on Trillian, or do I need to go shopping for a new IM client?

Thanx!

I'm still using an "ancient" version of trillian (0.74 with Patch I ), so I don't know that everything will be in the same place for you... but if I right-click on trillian in the system tray, choose OPTIONS and then PREFERENCES and scroll down to the various chatting services:

click on the + in front of AIM, to expand the menu, and select PRIVACY... I have a choice for "Who can contact me"... and I can select "Allow only users on my Contact List" (which of course, must then include everyone you expect to hear from, or they won't be able to get-through).

likewise, under ICQ, PRIVACY, under Miscellaneous, I can choose "Accept messages only from users on my Contact List"

under Yahoo!, PRIVACY, choose "Ignore anyone who is not on my Contact List"

Unfortunately, I don't see comparable option under MSN  (aside from creating a Block List as you receive each unwanted message).

Hope this may help... to at least steer you in the right direction.
