Trying to recall a great Windows Optimisation resource

Hi All,

Last year I was directed to a brilliant site - from a forum I think. This fellow - for free - provided pages and pages of checklists of Windows utilities/apps/services etc., that can be switched off to speed up your PC.

It was like: PC Doctor - PC Professor - Professor PC - or something.

I've searched and searched and can't find it. It was the best set of instructions I've ever used and I think really helped a lot with faster start-ups, and generally faster performance.

Perhaps you can remind me? Otherwise - can you suggest a similar resource?

Cheers! John

PS: This is not some sort of spam/advertising ploy

John,

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

There are many of these programs that will help tuneup your system. I did a search on google for the top 5 pc tuneup utility programs

Hi Jesse, thanks for this.

I actually have 'Tuneup Utilities 2010' which I think is pretty good. But the thing that really impressed me was this fellow's checklist. He explained what all of those little background apps and services are.

'Telephony' - If you're going to do such and such - switch it off.

'FAX' - if you're not... etc.

Hi Jesse,

Thanks for this. I actually have 'TuneUp Utilities 2010' on the PC and it's pretty good - i think.

This fellow's site was brilliant though. His tabular checklists for mysterious background apps and services (that I'd no idea were there) would say things like:

'Telephony' - Unless you want to do x, y, or z - switch it off

'FAX' - unless you... etc.

John,

Pacs-Portal has a list of startup programs and if they're needed or not.

This is a good site. How to handle "Services" in Windows and what to turn off.
