TVTuner Software?

Question

Well, I've just got a Angel USB 2.0 TV-Tuner, and I'm short Windows Media Center Edition (and the software for the tuner, have the driver though), and I was wondering is there any other way of getting video through it? I feel it's dumb to purchase a new system or new OS just to use something like this, and I know of things like MythTV for linux (if I'm correct), but when I try to play a device through VLC or Media Play Classic, I get nothing when selecting the device, so I don't know if it's broken, or it just is a device that will not work with anything but what dell says it can (In that case, meh, great way to show you support people and what they have). Any suggestions?

You might be able to download the software that goes with the card from the manufacturer's web site. You don't need Media Edition to use most tv tuner cards. However. after reading the requirements for your card, it does specify XP Media Edition. Didn't the card come with a software disk? Do you have it connected to your cable tv line? Instructions here: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/acc/P88546/en/index.htm You might consider a diff tuner that doesn't require Media Edition, such as the Hauppauge Win TV tuners.

Yeah, after a few more hours of research last night, and I figured out in combination with the driver from dell and software named SnappySoft I was able to few the signal of all 3 input methods through the tuner. Although the Comp. connection hasn't totally worked yet (I'm going to try a dvd player later just to see if all is well). Thanks for you input though, I didn't get software with the device, it was mainly just to get into the TV-Tuner game, and now that I know they work easily and do what I need, I'll probably purchase an internal PCI card for better quality.

Can you tell me which driver you are using for you Angel USB TV Tuner?  I loaded the SnappySoft software for capturing my camcorder's analog signal through the tuner, but am not getting the video capture.  I know Dell just changed some of the drivers for the tuner, and I may have gotten the wrong one.  Kudos to you for getting it to work!  I've been trying for 3 days!
