One of the biggest complaints with Vista is the boot time.  I have a desktop with a Q6600 quad CPU and it takes "quite a while" (I've never really timed it) to boot up.  Vista SP1 was supposed to help with the boot up time but I don't notice any difference with the Service Pack 1 installed.

I have a laptop with about the same hardware as you have and it takes it probably as long as yours for it to completely boot up and the wireless internet connection to be activated.

Thanks for the information friend, I was concerned I had installed Media Direct Wrong or something wierd, the home basic version seems to load up faster then the Business version however but I will leave it the way it is just now.

A friend said she had a HP laptop of similar specs and it takes 10 seconds, she must have it on sleep.

My system takes 1 min 30 secs from push of the power button to full Desktop. Not very long in my book. My XP took longer.

You sure thats a full power up or a boot from sleep?

I recommend to avoid to boot if possible and rather stby. The boot procedure takes ages in Vista. We will not "upgrade" to Vista in our office anyway (not only because of the overall lagginess).

It's a full boot. I have very few things that boot up with Windows.

I rather shut down, its better for the system files, I always shut down last thing at night but during the day its in sleep. And as for things booting up with windows I have alot disabled with msconfig but its before the other programs the power up from BIOs to Vista Log In Screen is slow.

Well the boot time was annoying me. So on my second harddrive with XP, I done a clean install of Media Direct, then Vista home basic Dell OEM ad Dell Drivers and that booted up alot faster.

Boot Time (From power up to log in screen 1 minute )

Opposed to

160Gb Hdd with Media Direct, Vista Home Basic Dell OEM > Vista Business Upgrade

Boot Time (From power up to screen 2 minutes 15 seconds)

I then tried the Vista Business Upgrade opted for a clean install as usual (Think I may have done that last time however may have just told it to upgrade as I had nothing on it). Then installed all the Drivers, it came up with a clash for the Intel Graphics Driver for some reason, (Error message of a file each time powered up) so I just deleted the file that gave an error and then reinstalled the driver, then windows updated it. I had problems installing Media Direct aswell, it froze during the reinstallation of Media Direct at 10%, however I put in on standby and powered it up again, then installation completed, (Media Direct Works Fine).

Log on Screen to Windows about 15 seconds or less.

Cutting my boot time in half. So whether or not I had done an "upgrade" before and it was loading Vista Home Basic and the loading Vista Business edition and hence taking twice as long. I am uncertain whether I did do "upgrade" or "clean install" as I had no programs on the harddrive to conflict the first time but will never do "upgrade" again just incase.
