Unable to install Quickbooks Pro 2003

Hi,

This is the situation. Unable to install Quickbooks 2003. Installation completes fine..when I click "Restart" get a message "Completing setup" and it sits there for ages and after waiting for a long time have to turn off laptop. Task Manager shows Quickbook setup status as "Not Responding". After this, I'm unable to uninstall Quickbooks from Add/Remove programs. If I reinstall Quickbooks, the scenario is the same. It installs fine and then sits when it shows "Completing setup".

Troubleshooting steps undertaken- Disabled startup items and services, ran "reboot.bat". Followed instructions here- http://www.quickbooks.com/support/faqs/qbw2003/premier/202020.html

If I dbl click on the QB icon on the desktop, there is an error msg that reads-

 

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Intuit\Quickbooks Basic QBW32.Exe
abnormal program termination

 

Also, the HD on my XPS laptop had crashed and I got a factory installed hard drive from Dell. The technician over telephone tried initiating the PC Restore but it would not start after 8 tries. Finally we gave up. He is sending me XP CDs to reinstall OS. But before I do reinstall the OS, is there anything else that can be done to resolve this issue.
