Unable to install video editing software

When attempting to install downloaded or CD-Rom versions of either Cyberlink Powerdirector or Nero, I receive the following error:
"The contents of this file cannot be
unpacked. The executable you are
attempting to run has been corrupted.
Please obtain another copy of the
file, verify its integrity, and try
again."

While running the setup program, I see "CRC failed" next to a couple of the files in the extraction window.

Any ideas?  I can't seem to find anything relevant in FAQs anywhere.

In almost all cases, exactly what the error message is telling you is what needs to be done, especially since you are getting CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check characters) errors (the CRC check character validates the file as good or bad, just as a "parity" bit will do with data).

Make sure you completely uninstall any failed versions and the failed versions folders, restart Windows and see if you can install it.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried doing everything you suggested multiple times and have the same errors when I attempt to reinstall.  BTW the both applications install just fine on my laptop (but that's not where I need them).  Any other suggestions?  Thanks again.

Have you tried to install any other progam, other than the two mentioned?  Just to see if the problem is on any installation?

If you have Windows ME or Windows XP, use the System Restore function and restore your PC to a date/time PRIOR to first attempting to install these programs.  Then try again and see if that works.
