Unable to open Excel docs in Windows 8

Installed Office Professional Plus 2010 on new computer with Windows 8.  Can create and open all Office documents except unable to open existing Excel documents.  When try to open, I am asked for the activation key.  When key is entered, get message that key is not valid.  Inserted install disk and re-entered activation key.  Did not work.  Called Microsoft and they will not help since software is older that 90 days.

Any ideas.  Many of our business docs are on these Excel files.

Hi lh,

You can launch MS Excel and check the status for activation as shown in image below:

Go to 'File' -- > Help -- > Check for the product activation.

Another step, you can try is to check for any typographical error while entering the key.

You can also try repairing the MS Office from control panel by following the steps below:

From 'Settings' in 'Charms bar' -- > Go to Control Panel -- > Programs and Features and Click on MS office --> Repair.

If the file was created in previous versions of MS Office (2007, 2003), you may refer to link: http://bit.ly/UTczKo

Please reply for further clarifications.

Try activating in Word instead of Excel and use telephone activation instead of online. If the Office program came on another computer it is possible that it cannot be installed on a different computer. You can access (read only) your excel documents by downloading the free Excel Viewer at Office Downloads.
