Unable to uninstall Adobe Reader 7.0.8

Major problems...I have pc set for auto updates.  Unable to use Adobe Reader now.  I could earlier in week.  Tried to un-install it and I get an error that says patch package couldn't be opened.  Verify the patch pkg. exists and you can access it, contact application vendor (I did... no help since it was pre-installled on my pc DELL Dimension 310 xp media home edition 2005 they said)to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package.  So I tried to install Adobe Reader 8...get a different error... error 1714 The older version of Adobe Reader 8 can't be removed.  Contact your technical support group.  Tried to do that and a blank white screen appears after I type in service tag number and remains blank.  I can't get in anywhere for support with DELL.  Please help!  I did restore my system back to an earlier date due to not being able to use Windows Media Player 11 that was automatically upgraded from 10.  Is that the problem?

Have you tried an earlier System Restore date?

You may want to run the Restore and then do a system file check:
click start>run
type in: sfc /scannow
(space between sfc and /)
click ok
Insert XP CD if sfc requests it and reboot when it's done.

I did one system restore, but when I tried to restore to an earlier lpoint beyond the one I just did another problem occured.  It popped up that my anit-virus had been disabled.  I finally figured out how to solve that.  I am so confused.  I just installed another reader so I just will not worry about adobe reader.  Also, I do not have an XP CD.  It came pre-installed and therefore I didn't receive a CD.  Thanks for your advice.

If this is a relatively new system, contact Dell tech support and request the XP installation CD and all driver/utilities and software CDs for your system.

Adobe can be a pain sometimes. You might want to post your problems on Adobe's own free user forum to see if anybody over there can help with your problem.
