UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION

I am getting an UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION from my Dell laptop after upgrading to Windows 10. I have tried almost every problem solving technique that I can find with no luck.

The machine is a Dell Inspiron 15R 5537 laptop originally with Windows 8 and later upgraded to Windows 8.1 without problems. This error only happens when running Windows 10. I've tried a factory reset back to Windows 8 and then an upgrade to Windows 10 and I've tried a clean install of Windows 10. It makes no difference. I check Windows Update daily, I check Dell driver updates almost every day. I've updated the BIOS. I've ran various Dell diagnostics with no errors. I've gone into "clean boot" in Windows and nothing has stopped the issue. I've sent Dell screenshots from BlueScreenViewer over twitter support and they didn't find anything in the errors. The only thing changed on the machine is the hard drive, after a failure of the original one right after the original warranty ended.

I run the same Windows 10 install on another machine (a non-Dell PC) with the same software running and don't have any problems. I keep getting told to do the same steps (factory reset and try it before upgrading, or run windows update or uninstall the anti virus software) which haven't worked.

Dell swears that the system will work with Windows 10 based on their testing. This is my last resort before I go buy a new laptop and end my relationship with Dell.

Is there anything else I can try? I'm not willing to go back to Windows 8.1 and I'm certainly not willing to keep working like this.

If you're talking about re-registering the windows store, i've done that to solve this issue and it fubard my machine (I've since had to reinstall the OS). the rest of the suggestions - i check windows update and driver updates daily. i installed new windows 10 drivers from dell as soon as i finished upgrading. i have not gone through to look for every program to find a windows 10 version, but i did re-download and then re-install everything (so I trust that those various websites gave me a windows 10 version).

i've also done clean installs of the OS and still had problems.

DyHrdMET,

I did a search for this error on many sites in hopes of a resolution. I did find one post on a site that seems to have resolved the users issue with the same circumstances as you. Click the link below and follow the information on the post

UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION

For me to better assist in troubleshooting, please click my DELL-Jesse L and send me a Private Message with the Dell Service Tag number and your Dell Order number.

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} has fubard my machine in the past.

DyHrdMET,

At the link I posted for you to look at and to try the steps the user posted to run the commands in the powershell as an administrator.  It  resolved a few other users with the same error.

DyHrdMET,

From reading many post on this error there are many users with different computers from other vendors getting the same error. Can you try the information below? It seems it has helped many users so far. Also, I am not sure if your computer has the AMD graphics card installed, but if it does click the link below to download the AMD catalyst driver. If you do not have the AMD Radeon video card you can disregard.

How-To Install AMD Catalyst™ Drivers For A Windows® Based System

Post from User:

I had the same problem after the upgrading to windows 10.

This worked for me.

1> Right click battery icon in the lower right corner.
2> Select power options.
3> Left click on "Choose What The Power Button Does"
4> left click "Change settings that are currently unavailable"
5> Scroll to the bottom and under "Shutdown Settings"
UNCHECK Both the "Turn on fast startup" & the "Sleep" boxes
6> click the "Save changes" button and close the power options window

I don't have the AMD graphics card. But let me try these other steps about the fast startup & sleep settings.

I've also removed and a few days later, re-installed Norton Security, and so far so good. that was something that some forums have suggested.

I tried everything you said, and this morning alone I had the screen saver freeze, UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION and CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED.
