Unexplained desktop window appears

Question

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 running Win XP. I am getting a popup window on my desktop with a picture of a lock--no message or source on the window. Sometimes the lock is in the lock postion and at times unlocked but there is no way to close the window. The window usually appears on startup and I am able to use the computer despite the intruding window. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks, Tom

Sounds like it could be the monitor itself, not the PC. This may help:

Something else I've seen mentioned is holding the monitor's menu button down for at least 20 seconds to reset it.
