Windows Mail is the replacement for Outlook Express in Vista. There is no more Outlook Express.

Not that I'm aware of. There are other email clients that you could install but I have no idea about PayPal functionality with any of them.

Thanks for your response.
I have outlook express on my desktop with XP so was hoping to be able to disable/uninstall Windows Mail and install outlook express, which I have waiting to install on my laptop but it won't install as it recogonises there is already a programme installed.  Is there no way of getting rid of Windows Mail on Vista?

You don't understand--Windows Mail IS Outlook Express. Only the name is different, but it is exactly the same program with Vista enhancements. It will work fine with Outlook Express computers. OE is not a separate program anyway. It is part of Windows. You don't have to use it.

So if it is the same as OE how come the PayPal email payment system for OE will not install with Windows Mail.  You seem to know it all so I would love to hear.

Danelle, Your last post would be best answered by MaryG since her comment prompted you to post your last question.

However, I just wanted to say that I think Bill is giving you excellent advice.  That is, you could install Outlook in Vista if you can find a cheap version of MS Office.  As Bill told you, Outlook is usually supported by developers in the same way Outlook Express is supported.  In other words, if Outlook Express works, then you can normally count on Outlook working with a given application.

Think of Outlook Express as the "baby" version of Outlook.  The difference is, Outlook Express is built into a Windows operating system and cannot be installed separately as Outlook can.

When I got Vista, I discovered that I missed Outlook Express too.  However, I just simply installed MS Office 2003 (which includes Outlook).  I then configured Outlook to read my e-mail accounts.  In my case, that is 2 e-mail accounts.

P.S. If you decide to purchase MS Office 2007, be aware that the "home version" does NOT include Outlook.

Thanks Scot & Bill for your suggestions and advice, it is much appreciated.  I will give MS Office and Outlook a go and see where that gets me.

Cheers

I have installed Outlook set it as my default and it all works lovely.  If need be I can switch easily between them as well.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your suggestions and help :smileyhappy:

There is a fairly well documented bug in Windows Mail, perhaps caused by interaction with McAfee, that causes messages to become "stuck" - unviewable, but also undeletable. When this occurs in the Outbox, Windows Mail becomes essentially useless because no outbound mail can be sent. (THere are hundreds of messages related to this in Microsoft Communities). I have this condition, and so need to switch to Outlook, which I already have. However ...

How do you export mail folders from Windows Mail to Outlook. The Export function offers an Exchange format, which should be right (the only other option is Windows Mail) but it does not offer a destination directory, when it completes it says "converted to Windows Mail format" (!) and there is in fact no file to be found.

Can anyone offer a way to get my messages out of WIndows Mail and into Outlook? Thanks!
