Unistalling Mc Afee Security Center

I've had a lot of trouble trying to get McAfee Security Center installed.  It would not recognize the DELL service tag and would not update.

I want to get this software off my new DELL (it's not worth the 90-day hassle) but it doesn't seem to uninstall through the Control Panel.  It says there is a Security Center program running that must be uninstalled.  I do not see an option to get the Virus Scan uninstalled either through the program or menus or through the Uninstall New Programs.

I only see the one to uninstall the Security Center which gives me the error to remove the virusscan first which I can't do.

It also seems this Security Center gives a constant reminder on boot-up so I definitely want to get rid of it.

Any suggestions?

Go to the link below and in that dialog on the left select VirusScan Online for the product and Install/Uninstall for the category.  Look for the topic "How do I Uninstall VirusScan Online?".  If the automatic uninstall option doesn't work for you, then follow the instructions for the manual uninstall.  After you are finished with that, then you can uninstall the Security Center without a problem.

Thanks for your help! I downloaded an update of Viruscan and then "installed" it again.  After I did that, it showed up in the Control Panel for Installing/Removing Software.  I then deleted it and also deleted the Security Center.

I had a heck of time with McAfee.  I did not like it at all!!!!!

I was almost ready to reinstall everything....whew.

I had McAfee Privacy Service and when subscription expired I went to add/remove to un-install and this requires a reboot. Computer would never boot past login. Had to reinstall XP and all other programs. Found out later there is a very complicated document for un-installing this service. I have found most companies in computer software and hardware could care less about your problems after they sell you their junk. If it wasn't for what I can find out on these forums, I would have to quit computers.  Doogie

McAfee......AAAAAAHHHH. Why is it so hard to get it off your computer??? I have read and re-read the instructions for removing it. I can not remove it the easy way, it must be removed by editing the registry. I do not feel confident about trying to do that. Why oh why do they do this to us?

Try uninstalling Corel....lots worse than McAfee. Just my 2 cents worth

Corel hasn't bothered me.  It just lies in my hard drive taking up space.  The McAfee program kept asking to be updated on every bootup and then would reject the DELL system tag.  I was really disappointed it didn't work literally out of the box.

It's gone now that I've uninstalled it, so I'm happy.
