unknown quicktime error

I'm not sure if it directly deals with quicktime, but whenever I got a site that has videos (like youtube for example), instead of playing videos, I get the quicktime logo with a question mark infront of it. This happens with a lot of sites and videos. I tried configuring quicktime, reinstalling it, but I still get the same "error". I tried looking up quicktime errors, but I'm unable to find anything close. Anybody know what I should do? A great thanks in advance!

Youtube requires a different flash player.  Apparently Quicktime is trying to take over when it shouldn't.  I don't remember what player is actually needed, the youtube site should say or allow you to download.

However, quicktime is on the list of "ill behaving" programs, that want to take over or do what they want to do and for that reason I do not have QT or real player installed on my PC's.

YouTube uses the .flv file format so you need the Adobe (Macromedia) Flash Player 7.0+ plug-in for your browser. Read this: http://youtube.com/t/help_cat04

And if you want to view them again offline, find the file in your browser cache, drag it onto the desktop and rename it with .flv extension. Then use one of the many free .flv players such as FLV Player 1.3.3 to watch until your eyes pop out. ;)

I downloaded adobe flash, but when I try to install it, nothing happens. It will copy the files, then when it hits 100%, it closes and nothing else happens. It's also not just youtube. Anything else that's animated (well I think anything that's animated), can't be displayed, or any advertisements. I get the quicktime 'Q' with a question mark over it. Thanks again.

I didn't see anything happen after I ran the installer linked from the youtube site in my previous post. Go here to test your install:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/
It should tell you what version is installed and then show you a short vid in the black box at top of the screen.

Sounds more like you have a problem with Quicktime. You may want to uninstall QT and then see if youtube vids will play. If that works, then download and install latest QT plug-in for your browser.
