Unread E-mails message at log-in screen...

Question

You know that message that tends to appear at the Windows Log-on screen if you have unread E-mails? It says something like '6 unread mail messages'. Well I have an annoying problem. A relative that was visiting logged into her E-mail inbox to check her E-mails from my PC. She didn't check all the new E-mail messages and left several unread. For some reason, Windows has associated her E-mail address with my Windows user account and I now have a message saying I have some unread mail message displayed by my user name. At first I thought they were from my E-mail address, but a closer look pointed to my relative's E-mail address ###### hotmail com. That relative of mine has now left town, she lives in another state and has gone home. I don't have access to her E-mail address, and I can't seem to eliminate that message.   Anyone know how I can disassociate her E-mail address from my user account without access to her E-mail account? Is there a file somewhere in the folder structure of my user account that I can delete to disassociate the E-mail address?

I've checked the articles both of you linked to. Unfortunatly, both require that I alter the windows registry. To me the Windows Registry is sacred territory and I will not tamper with it regardless of what the c ircumstances are. There has got to be another way.

The link I gave you includes option to download the files: Turn Off and Turn On, which will make the changes for you (as their names indicate). Right click on each link, click save target as, select where you want to save them. To turn off email message, double click on email_off.reg, click yes on any warning message. To enable it again, double click on email_on.reg.   That is no different from any app making a change in your sacred territory :-)

Are you using Outlook Express? If you are, open OE and select Tools and then Accounts. Delete all mail accounts except for your accout.
