"Unread messages"
When I turn on the computer, Windows XP shows the different users that share this computer, and under my name it reads that I have an unread message in my hotmail. But when I click into my hotmail, there is NO unread email. How do I clear the front page?
Follow up question, the Messenger is acting goofy. It will read that I have NO unread emails, but when I click into the hotmail, there may be some unread hotmails. I suspect the latter is a server problem, as this is the same problem on other computers.
Thanks!

You can clear "Unread Mail" by using regedit & navigate to HKEY
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail
set "MessageExpiryDays" to ......(0) to stop Logon message or to just clear Count of messages
click on HKEY below which is account being checked & set "MessageCount" to .......(0)
Also shows the "Application" being used , ie: msimn for OE.

If you don't want to use regedit HKEY
You can download FREE Microsoft program called TweakUI for XP+ SP1 from;
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp
install & select "Logon" > "Unread Mail" which only shows if you are using "Welcome Screen" which you are.
